Demi Moore is opening up about her body image journey.
The “Inside Out” author got candid with Elle magazine about a movie producer, whose film and name she did not disclose, who made her look inwards about her weight, calling the experience “very embarrassing and humiliating.”
“I internalized it,” she said, “It moved me to a place of such torture and harshness against myself, of real extreme behaviors, and that I placed almost all the value of who I was on my body being a certain way.”
In the interview, “The Substance” star claimed the producer told her to lose weight multiple times.
How Demi Moore blew up her comfort zone in new movie ‘The Substance’
Moore told Elle there was “a lot of torment I put myself through when I was younger.”
The 62-year-old added she now has a different outlook on her journey with her body. “While we’re so focused on what we’re not, we miss out on the beauty of all that we are,” she said. “The thing is, I do have love for my body, but it’s more about appreciation — I can really appreciate all that my body does for me now, not just how it looks.”
Moore added: “The more I appreciate the lines in the corner of my eyes, the more I can find beauty in the life that I’ve lived—the more my life has beauty.”
In a recent interview with USA TODAY in September, Moore opened up about her emotional vulnerability while acting in nude scenes opposite Margaret Qualley in “The Substance.”
“Part of what was attractive is I knew that this wasn’t about highlighting my (body) and being lit in my most attractive ways, that in fact, it would be amplifying those things that you might see as flaws or that you don’t want somebody to see,” Moore said.
