OTTAWA—A development phase agreement has been signed by the Ottawa Hospital (TOH) and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) with The Ottawa Hospital Build Partners to deliver a new hospital in downtown Ottawa.

The project is being planned and built through a progressive public-private partnership approach which is designed to foster collaborative development.

According to a release, The Ottawa Hospital Build Partners will work collaboratively with TOH, IO and the Ontario Ministry of Health to finalize the design, pricing, schedule, risk parameters and project requirements for the build.

If the development phase is successfully completed, TOH will enter into a fixed-price project agreement with the development partner to design, build, finance and maintain the project.

The Ottawa Hospital Build Partners team includes:

  • Applicant leads: PCL Investments Inc and ED Capital Inc (collectively ‘The Ottawa Hospital Build Partners’)
  • Design leads: Parkin Architects Ltd and Adamson Associates Architects
  • Construction team: PCL Constructors Canada Inc. and EllisDon Corporation Joint Venture
  • Financial adviser: PCL Investments Inc. and ED Capital Inc.

The new hospital will include 641 single patient rooms; the most advanced trauma centre in eastern Ontario; one of the most innovative neuroscience research programs in the world; and research, education and sustainability integrated into the design.

It is Ottawa’s largest-ever health infrastructure project, 2.5 million square feet on a 50-acre site.

Construction of the new campus is expected to inject more than $2 billion into Ottawa’s economy, contribute over $1.2 billion in labour income and create more than 4,000 full time jobs, a release states.
