KELOWNA, B.C. – Behind a strong second-day performance, the University of Calgary Dinos golf teams wrapped up the 2024 Canada West Championships Tuesday afternoon at the Okanagan Golf Club in Kelowna.

Calgary’s men wrapped up the two-day, 36-hole tournament in fourth place, while the women’s team finished fifth.

Sam Bratvold led the way for the Dinos men. The third-year righty from Medicine Hat, Alta. opened the tournament as one of just 11 golfers to shoot under par on the opening round, firing a 71 (-1) on Monday. Bratvold continued his strong play in Tuesday’s championship day, fighting for a top-three finish all the way to the end. He sunk birdie shots on three consecutive holes on 12, 13 and 14, but a bogey on 16 moved him into a tie for eighth overall.

Adam Reed was in the red on Tuesday, finishing one-under on the day to place 15th overall for the tournament at +1. Cian Besler-Chalcroft also had a strong finish for the Dinos, shooting just one over on the final day for a total score of +3 for 18th overall.

As a team, Calgary continued to battle toward the top three as a team before taking fourth with a team score of +12 (298) – 12 shots clear of the next closest team in Fraser Valley.

On the women’s side, Georgia Mackenzie led the way for the Scarlet & Gold with a 16th-place finish. The fourth year wrapped up the two-day championship with a +18 (164)

The UBCO men brought home the men’s title – the first ever conference title for the Heat in any Canada West sport. Meanwhile, the UBC women won their fifth consecutive team title.
