Emiliano Buendia scored twice on his competitive return from a year out through injury as he played for Aston Villa Under-21s in their EFL Trophy win at Fleetwood.
The Argentine midfielder volleyed home a Ross Barkley cross to get his first goal since suffering a serious knee injury that saw him miss last season.
He added another just before the break and after Fleetwood fought back to make it 2-2 in the second half, Kyrie Pierre scored a late winner for Villa.
Villa’s under-21s were one of 32 sides in action on a busy Tuesday in the competition.

Two wins in two for Port Vale
Newcastle United Under-21s beat Bradford City 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Josh Donaldson’s 92nd-minute equaliser took the game to penalties after a goal either side of half-time from Oliver Sanderson and Andy Cook had given the Bantams the lead following Ben Parkinson‘s opener.
Elsewhere, Wolves succumbed to a 5-4 defeat on penalties by Port Vale following a 2-2 draw despite 18-year-old winger Tom Edozie opening the scoring when he found the top corner with a tidy finish before half-time.

A last minute equaliser from substitute Olufela Olomola took the game to penalties where Olomola won it for the hosts with the decisive kick.
