Google today announced an AI-powered rework of Google Shopping, the company’s product discovery platform that lets users search for things through both prompts and Google Lens, compare prices, and more.
“People shop across Google more than a billion times a day to do things like virtually try on clothes before they buy, shop what they see with Lens and research prices,” Sean Scott, Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Shopping at Google, said in a blog post.
“We’ve been using our advances in AI to make shopping on Google even easier, and today, we’re introducing a transformed Google Shopping — rebuilt from the ground up with AI.”
Google Shopping is now packed with all-new, AI-powered search and recommendation features. When users search for a product on the new Google Shopping, they’ll see an AI-generated brief with the top things they should consider for their search, along with products that match it.
With these new AI briefs, Google Shopping aims to suggest the most relevant products to users. However, Google noted that they will be labelled “experimental” for now as the feature may not always get things right.
According to Google, the new search and recommendation features were made possible by combining the 45 billion product listings in Google’s Shopping Graph with the company’s Gemini AI models. Google launched the mobile version of its Gemini Live AI assistant in August.
The new and improved Google Shopping also brings dynamic filters to help users better dial in their preferences. In addition, users will be greeted by a new home page with a personalized feed full of products and videos based on their preferences and previously searched products.
Users can update or turn off personalized results at any time by going to the Google Shopping menu and navigating to “Shopping preferences” at the bottom of the page.
Google also touted new deal-finding tools coming to Google Shopping, including price comparison, price insights, and price tracking, as well as a dedicated “Deals” page. To top it all off, Google Shopping will now remember where you left off the next time you visit the platform.
The new Google Shopping is already rolling out in the U.S. today, with a mass rollout expected over the coming weeks.
