Last year Canada qualified for the knockout stage, but lost in the quarterfinals to Finland, who it will see this year in the Group Stage of play. Argentina has not made the knockout stage since 2019 when it lost in the quarterfinals to Spain, who went on to win the Davis Cup.
This year the Argentinian team around Baez features Francisco Cerúndolo (31st in the world) and Tomás MartÃn Etcheverry (34th) in singles, with the team of Andrés Molteni and Máximo González in doubles.
The rest of the Canadian team features Denis Shapovalov (100th), who was ranked 10th in 2020, Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau and tour veteran Vasek Pospisil. In 2019 a young Auger-Aliassime made a splash on the big stage, while Shapovalov and Pospisil carried a heavy lead for Canada as it made a run to the finals for the first time, falling just short against a very talented Spanish team.
