Inter Milan Insert 2025 Exit Clause In Two Veteran Defenders Contracts

Inter Milan have reportedly inserted a termination clause in the new contracts of Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian.

According to FCInter1908, the defending Serie A champions have renewed several high-profile deals in the past 12 months.

In addition to Acerbi and Darmian, they’ve handed new contracts to Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nicolo Barella.

While the Armenian renewed until 2026, like Acerbi and Darmian, the Italy international’s new agreement ties him to the club until 2029.

However, the Nerazzurri have handed themselves a wriggle room in the contracts by incorporating these termination clauses.

These would allow for potential adjustments if needed in the future.

Indeed, Inter will be able to cancel Acerbi, Mkhitaryan, and Darmian’s deals by paying them compensation fees next summer.

Simone Inzaghi has heavily relied on Acerbi and Darmian in recent seasons.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, the 36-year-old center-back has been a permanent first-team fixture at Meazza.

Before succumbing to a thigh injury against Roma, Acerbi had been Inzaghi’s regular starter in Serie A.

He’s ahead of Stefan de Vrij in the pecking order.

Therefore, the Dutchman’s future at Inter is also up in the air.

As for Darmian, he has been Inzaghi’s favorite right-back ahead of Denzel Dumfries.

However, he’s 34, and it’s clear that Inter’s management is considering the long-term implications of their squad composition.

Therefore, Inter must assess their long-term strategies and possibly look for younger reinforcements in these positions.

Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan has gone from strength to strength since swapping Roma for the Nerazzurri in 2022.

The 35-year-old Armenian excelled last weekend as Inter and Juventus shared the spoils in a 4-4 draw.

Indeed, he scored a delightful first-half goal to restore parity after the Bianconeri overhauled Inter’s early lead.

But there’s still a question mark hanging over his head.
