Knicks sign free agent G Landry Shamet to one-year deal

Must read

The Knicks added shooting and veteran depth — something they felt they lacked late last season — by agreeing to a one-year deal with free agent guard Landry Shamet on Saturday.

Shamet, 27, has played on five teams over the last seven years. He spent last season with the Washington Wizards where he averaged 7.1 points over 15.8 minutes per game, shooting 33.8 percent from three-point range.

Over his career, Shamet is a 38.4 percent three-point shooter, averaging 8.7 points per game.

Shamet fits as a veteran depth piece which the Knicks lacked last year as the injuries mounted. He also reunites with Mikal Bridges, whom he played with in Phoenix. ESPN first reported the signing.

Per SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley, the Knicks had the edge over other suitors for Shamet because he was looking for a winning environment.

The Knicks are allowed to have up to 21 players under contract in training camp but must get down to 15 traditional contracts by Opening Night. Shamet’s deal with New York is a veteran-level minimum deal that is non-guaranteed, per SNY sources.
