A toddler was rendered unconscious and transported to hospital in Winnipeg with serious injuries after RCMP say his mother assaulted him on Sunday.
Paramedics arrived at the residence in Lake Manitoba First Nation, located approximately 150 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, for a report involving a 16-month-old child, according to a Monday news release.
Lundar and Ashern RCMP were advised the child had injuries consistent with being assaulted and also went to the home after 3:05 a.m., the release said.
The toddler was taken to hospital in Winnipeg and has since been upgraded to stable condition, RCMP said.
The mother, 19, was arrested at the home and remains in police custody. She will not be identified in order to protect the name of the victim, RCMP said.
Lundar and Ashern RCMP, along with Major Crimes Services, continue to investigate.
