Nothing staid at the Stade
Villa defend a 2-1 advantage but it’s hard to discount Lille given their dominant record at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy this season.
Paulo Fonseca’s side have lost only one of their 20 home matches in all competitions this term, going 15 games unbeaten since suffering a 2-1 loss to Reims at the end of September. They also edged the shots-on-target count 7-4 at Villa Park last week.
However, Unai Emery’s side, fresh from their weekend win at Arsenal and having beaten Ajax 4-0 on aggregate in the previous round, will also be confident that they can come out on top.
That points to an entertaining encounter, in which an early goal for either side could force the opposition to go on the front foot.
Both teams have scored in each of Lille’s previous six games, while they have conceded in Europa Conference League home matches against Rijeka, Slovan Bratislava and Sturm Graz this season.
Villa, meanwhile, have managed only two clean sheets in their last six, with both teams scoring on four occasions.
Like Lille, they combine great attacking quality with a touch of ill-discipline in defence, which looks to be a good recipe for goals.
Lille vs Aston Villa tip 1: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals @ Evens with CopyBet
Watkins in rich vein of form
Villa sharpshooter Ollie Watkins is doing everything he can to stake a claim for a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad and he could enhance his growing reputation here.
Watkins has netted 26 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions this season, with only Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer registering more than his tally of 19 in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old was on target in the first leg, while also putting the icing on the cake in Sunday’s 2-0 win at Arsenal, so he is bidding to score in four consecutive matches for the first time this season.
Lille have conceded in four straight home games and Watkins, the focal point of Villa’s attack and supplied with great service from Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby, could punish their defensive frailties.
Lille vs Aston Villa tip 2: Ollie Watkins any-time goalscorer @ 7/4 with CopyBet
Caution on cards for McGinn
Both teams scored in the first leg and it is hard to see anything but a repeat scenario in France.
Lille are chasing the game but Villa are not set up like a side to rest on their laurels, which points to excitement and that should contribute to plenty of corners. There were 10 in the opening leg.
Bettors can complete the 7/1 bet builder with John McGinn, a passionate player who wears his heart on his sleeve, to be shown a card.
McGinn escaped a booking against Lille at Villa Park despite committing three fouls, but he has been carded 11 times in 53 appearances for club and country this term.
