It is well-established by this point that Real Madrid intend to go after the signing of a new right-back in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool mainstay Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is entering the final six months of his contract at Anfield, is seen as the priority target for the reigning Spanish and European champions.
The Reds, for their part, are trying hard to convince the England international to stay put and sign a new contract.
Alexander-Arnold wants to play for Real Madrid
However, according to a report from AS, Alexander-Arnold has his heart set on playing for Real Madrid and as such has rejected Liverpool’s offers of a contract extension.
So, if everything goes according to plan, the Liverpool homegrown star is expected to sign for Los Blancos as a free agent come summer.
As has been reported already, Real Madrid have a meeting scheduled with Alexander-Arnold’s camp in January, when he will be free to negotiate with the club of his desire having entered the final six months of his contract.
The Spanish capital club will be hoping to secure a pre-contract agreement for his signing in the summer at the earliest possible so as to not let the saga drag on.
Liverpool, though, are unlikely to go down without a fight and are expected to keep making continued efforts to convince Alexander-Arnold to stay at Anfield.
So far, though, the Reds’ attempts have not worked and if nothing changes, the right-back could very well be Real Madrid-bound in the summer.
