Barrow head coach Stephen Clemence is calling on his players to lose the costly habit of squandering late leads in matches.

The 1-1 draw with Colchester United was the third successive league game in which Barrow have conceded an equaliser after the 90th minute.

The three draws have left the Bluebirds in 11th.

With those six extra lost points, they would be in the automatic promotion spots.

“You have to grind it out as a player,” Clemence told BBC Radio Cumbria.

“It’s mentality, it’s putting your head in where it hurts, doing your bit for the team.”

The Barrow boss introduced an extra defender in previous games but stuck to a back four against Colchester to try to see the game out.

But it was to no avail as lyle Taylor scored in the 92nd minute.

Clemence knows his players need to put a match to bed by grabbing a second goal or showing more resolve.

“This can’t keep happening,” he said.

“It’s a psychological thing. We’re getting to the 90th minute and we’re ahead, but we’ve got to get over that barrier or we’ve got to get that second goal.”
