Luton Town midfielder Jordan Clark says the players must take a good look at themselves and “reset” during the international break after taking only one point from their first four Championship games.
The Hatters, who were relegated from the Premier League last term, have only won one league game since the end of January.
And there was discontent around Kenilworth Road following Friday’s 2-1 home defeat by Queens Park Rangers.
“We’ve got to turn things round quickly. We know the fans are getting frustrated, which is understandable,” Clark told BBC Three Counties Radio.
“For the amount of quality we’ve got in this team, it’s not good enough. The goals we conceded (against QPR) were so, so poor.
“We need to address it now – I think the break’s probably come at a good time for us. We can have a good look at ourselves, go through the games we’ve had so far and assess our performances.”
With the benefit of Premier League parachute money to boost their coffers, many people expect Luton to mount another promotion challenge, having gone up via the Championship play-offs in 2023.
Manager Rob Edwards was given a new four-year contract in June and the Hatters have brought in six new faces over the summer, although the latest – midfielder Lamine Fanne – will not arrive until the new year.
Clark said the transfer window can be an unsettling period, but the current problems were down to not scoring enough goals and not doing the basics right.
He explained: “You don’t know who’s going to try and take our players and who’s going to come in.
“Obviously it’s not our business, it’s to do with the manager and the staff – but a lot of our players did well last year so they’re going to be linked to clubs.
“I suppose it can be unsettling, but we’re professionals and we’ve just got to get on with it. There’s a lot of expectation on us, we did ourselves proud last year, so there’s probably a target on our backs for the Championship.”
He added: “You don’t want to fall too far behind in this league because it’s a tough league to come through.”
