Magnitude 4.0 earthquake hits off coast of Victoria, shaking felt in Vancouver

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake was reported in British Columbia’s South Coast early Thursday morning, with the epicentre located about 18 km northeast of Victoria.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake had a depth of 52 km. No tsunami warnings were issued, and there was no threat of a tsunami from this earthquake.

The early morning quake was felt in Greater Victoria, Duncan, and even the Metro Vancouver area, with residents taking to X to report the tremor, which was said to last for about five seconds. Rumbles were felt in Washington state, as well.

There were no reports of damage or injury, with none to be expected.
