The man charged with killing Tori Dunn in her Surrey, B.C., home in June made a brief appearance in Surrey provincial court on Wednesday.
Adam Troy Mann is charged with Dunn’s second-degree murder.
He appeared via video link from the Vancouver Island Regional Correction Centre — a balding man with a short beard and moustache wearing a red sweatshirt. Mann told the court he is in the process of changing lawyers.
A handful of Dunn’s family, friends and supporters watched from the courtroom gallery.
The 30-year-old landscape business owner was critically injured and died in hospital in what her family has described as a home invasion. Mann, 40, was arrested that same night.
The case is being moved to B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster because adult murder cases are outside the jurisdiction of provincial courts in B.C.
Dunn’s homicide put the criminal justice system under the spotlight when Canada’s premiers sent a letter to Ottawa demanding bail reform following her death.
