Viktor Gyökeres is drawing attention from several top European clubs as 2025 approaches, with Sporting Lisbon reportedly open to selling their star striker. Among the suitors, one team may be emerging as the frontrunner for the Swedish forward.
Foot Mercato reports that the dynamic between Luis Enrique and Luís Campos has shifted, with Campos now approaching their collaboration more cautiously.
Recently, Campos began exploring the possibility of signing Viktor Gyökeres, even setting up meetings with the player’s representatives. However, when he discussed the idea with Enrique, the coach expressed hesitation.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Manchester United have initiated talks regarding a potential move next summer. However, any deal is expected to depend on the club making player sales first.
Manchester City have also stepped up their pursuit in recent days, with club official Hugo Viana actively involved in their efforts to land the striker.
Finally, SPORT suggests Barcelona are weighing up a €70 million offer for Gyökeres, which would include loaning him back to Sporting for an additional season.
Is Viktor Gyökeres Premier League bound?
Amid the ongoing rumors concerning Gyökeres, Diario AS shared an update on the file, and the Spanish outlet notes that all signs point to him moving to the Premier League.
“The spotlight on the Swedish striker is centered around Manchester and London, setting the stage for a summer bidding war for Gyökeres,” AS noted. “Sky Sports has identified two clubs in the race: Manchester United, now guided by new manager Rúben Amorim, and Manchester City, with Hugo Viana playing a key role in their technical department.
“Both clubs are well aware of Gyökeres’ talent. While negotiations won’t be easy, as Sporting remains firm in their €70 million asking price, there’s growing confidence in England that the Lisbon club might eventually agree to a deal.”
