Ireland swimmer Barry McClements qualified sixth fastest for the S9 100m butterfly final at the Paralympics in Paris.
The Newtownards man, 22, clocked 1:01.85 which left him in third place in his heat as he finished 1.24 seconds behind winner Australia’s Timothy Hodge.
Italy’s Simone Barlaam led the qualifiers after winning the closing heat in 1:00.17, which was 0.44 faster than second quickest Hodge.
McClements’ heat time was 0.34 slower than the third fastest qualifier, Belarusian swimmer Yahor Shchalkanau.
The team Ireland swimmer will be competing in his second final at the Paris Games after finishing eighth in the S9 men’s 100m backstroke on Tuesday.
McClements won Northern Ireland’s first ever Commonwealth Games swimming medal when he clinched S9 men’s 100m backstroke bronze in Birmingham two years ago.
