Meet Ottawa County candidates at these upcoming voter events

OTTAWA COUNTYThe League of Women Voters of the Holland Area is hosting a handful of events in July to help voters get to know candidates running for county offices. 

Events are scheduled for July 9, 11 and 18 with candidates for the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners, Ottawa County Sheriff and Ottawa County Prosecutor. 

LWVHA will host a candidate forum for commissioner candidates in Districts 1 and 2 from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, in the banquet room of the Howard Miller Public Library, 14 S. Church St. in Zeeland. 

All candidates running in the primary have been invited, LWV said. Candidates in District 1 are incumbent Republican Gretchen Cosby, Republican Jim Barry and Democrat Danielle Smith. District 2 candidates are incumbent Democrat Chris Kleinjans, Republican Lucy Ebel and Republican Jordan Jorritsma. 

Candidates in attendance will respond to questions submitted to the moderator.

Meanwhile, an event scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, in the DeVries Room of Hager Park at 8212 28th Avenue in Jenison will serve as a meet-and-greet for commissioner candidates in Districts 5, 6 and 7. All candidates in those districts have been invited.

Candidates in those districts include incumbent Republican Joe Moss, Republican Mark Northrup and Democrat Jon Rabideau in District 5; incumbent Republican Kendra Wenzel, Republican Shawn Haff and Democrat Michelle Dieleman in District 6; and Republicans Rachel Atwood and John Teeples and Democrat Heather Majestic in District 7. 

On Thursday, July 18, LWVHA will host a candidate forum for the sheriff and prosecutor races. The forum will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Ottawa County Health and Human Services Building, 12185 James St. in Holland Township. 

The event will include prosecutor candidates Sara Matwiejczyk and Greg Todd and sheriff candidates Eric DeBoer and Jon Anderson. Candidates will respond to questions submitted to the event moderator.
