SALINA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men’s tennis team avenged its regular season loss to (RV) Bethel with a 4-2 victory in the KCAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Genesis Health Club.
Ottawa took a 1-0 lead in the doubles point. Santiago Tartaglia and Bernardo Figueiredo won their no. 3 doubles match 6-1. Oscar Giorgio and Ben Russell fell 6-2 in no. 2 doubles and the doubles point was tied 1-1. Bethel took the doubles point with a win in no. 1 doubles, 2-1. Jhoel Quinonez and Jarmo Perez Wienese lost 6-3.
The Braves tied the match with Tartaglia’s 6-0, 6-1 win in no. 3 singles, 1-1. Perez Wienese fell 6-4, 6-1 in no. 1 singles and Bethel led 2-1. Quinonez won his no. 2 singles match 6-4, 6-4 to tie the contest, 2-2. Giorgio took a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win in no. 4 singles to give OU a 3-2 lead. Ottawa clinched the match with Almog Cohen’s 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win in no. 6 singles.
OU (14-7) will play no. 18 McPherson College in the KCAC Tournament Championship. The match will be played at the Dr. Emory Lindquist Tennis Center at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan. The contest will follow the women’s championship match, which starts at 10:00 a.m.
