Mexico’s Maya Train might have just celebrated its full completion in mid-December, but it’s already celebrating the first year anniversary of its partial operation with a selection of ten new tourist packages to make it easier for travelers to plan their trips to Mexico.

According to Riviera Maya News, the new packages might include preferential airfare when leaving Felipe Ángeles International Airport on the Mexicana de Aviación airline. The new packages also provide discounted rates at Maya Train hotels in Tulum, Chichén Itzá, Calakmul and Edzná. Domestic travelers will enjoy 50 percent discounts on some parts of the package.

The packages will be made available across several websites, including Visit Mexico and the Maya Train’s official website soon.

The Maya Train opened its nearly 1,000-mile stretch on December 15, connecting destinations across the five Mexican states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.

Despite the achievement, the Maya Train faced several delays, including pressure from environmental groups concerned about its destruction of rainforests, as well as a heftier price tag than originally expected and less popularity prior to its full completion.
