MK Dons sign experienced free-agent striker Hogan

MK Dons have signed former Aston Villa and Birmingham City striker Scott Hogan on a free transfer.

The Republic of Ireland international left Birmingham at the end of last season after scoring twice in 29 appearances.

He joins an MK Dons side 14th in League Two under recently appointed boss Scott Lindsey.

“Scott’s a brilliant signing. He’s 32 years old but plays like he’s a 22-year-old,” Lindsey told the club website.

“We spoke in detail in terms of formations, how the game model looks from our point of view and how he fits into that.

“He’s very fit, he looks sharp, he’s alert in the box and he will score goals.”

The length of Hogan’s contract has not been disclosed – the club only say it is a “permanent deal”.

The Dons have also appointed former Crawley Town midfielder Ben Gladwin as first-team coach.

Gladwin, also 32, retired because of injury problems after playing 14 games for Crawley last season.

But he was caretaker boss for their last two games prior to the appointment of Rob Elliot as successor to Lindsey, who left Crawley last month to become MK Dons boss.

Meanwhile, young defender Callum Tripp has signed a new contract with the club.

He was introduced to the first-team squad as a 15-year-old by former boss Liam Manning and made his debut in an EFL Trophy game against Cheltenham Town in August 2022.

Now 18, he has made five league appearances so far this season, three of them starts.
