The Philip F. Anschutz trophy is the third different trophy to be awarded to MLS champions, following the Rothenberg trophy (1999-2007) and Alan I. Rothenberg trophy (1996-98).

The Galaxy have made the most MLS Cup appearances (9) and own the most wins (5). D.C. United has the second-most MLS Cup wins (4), with the most recent victory coming in 2004.

The 2024 MLS Cup is the 29th edition of the league’s championship game. A total of 15 different clubs have won an MLS Cup, with 19 of 32 teams that have played in the league appearing in the MLS Cup final.
