Several people were killed or injured after a vehicle struck people celebrating the new year in New Orleans early Wednesday, according to local media reports.
WWL-TV, a CBS affiliate in the city, said as many as 10 people were killed and at least 26 others injured. CBS quoted witnesses as saying a truck crashed into the crowd at high speed, and then the driver got out and started firing a weapon, with police returning fire.
Local media said it happened around 3:15 a.m. local time at the intersection of Bourbon Street and Iberville Street, in the French Quarter of the city.
More to come.
