Nominations are now closed for the provincial election in Saskatchewan scheduled for Oct. 28.
Both the Saskatchewan Party and the NDP have a full slate of candidates in all the 61 ridings. The full list can be found at Elections Saskatchewan’s website.
A total of 243 candidates met the requirements of running in a provincial election and will have their names appear on the ballots in their constituencies.
This is up from 236 candidates in the 2020 provincial election, but fewer than the record 268 candidates in the 2016 provincial election.
Saskatchewan Green Party has 58 candidates that have been nominated for the election.
Saskatchewan United Party has 31 candidates who made it to the list, and Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan managed to get 16 candidates in the race.
The Progressive Conservative Party of Sask. has 11 candidates, Sask. Progress Party has three and there are also two independents who have been nominated.
Meanwhile, as of Saturday, Elections Saskatchewan said 27,678 vote-by-mail applications had been approved. The deadline to apply to vote by mail is next Saturday, Oct. 19.
Entering the election, the governing Saskatchewan Party held more than two-thirds of the 61 seats in the legislature (42), followed by the opposition Saskatchewan NDP (14).
There were three Independent members — Speaker Randy Weekes, Ryan Domotor and Greg Lawrence — and one member of the Saskatchewan United Party, Nadine Wilson. There was one vacant seat.
