‘Oh No, That’s My Car!’: Water Surrounds Vehicles as Flash Flooding Strikes New Orleans

Must read

Several inches of floodwater swamped parts of Louisiana on Thursday, September 12, as Tropical Depression Francine moved through the region.

Footage filmed by Paige Gatson shows floodwaters surrounding vehicles in Metairie on Wednesday night.

“Oh no, look at my car! That’s my car!!” Gatson can be heard exclaiming behind the camera.

The National Weather Service (NWS) discouraged anyone in the area from entering the floodwaters, noting they are “full of chemicals, sewage, and disease.”

By Thursday morning, over 300,000 residents were without power due to the storm, local media reported. The NWS noted that power outages have their own set of hazards, advising residents not to use generators in an enclosed space, and to use flashlights rather than candles to prevent fire risk.
