An Ontario Tech University professor is among dozens of new inductees to the Order of Canada.
Barbara Perry was named a Member (C.M.) of the order on Wednesday.
She is one of Canada’s top experts on hate crimes, leading the university’s Centre on Hate, Bias and Extremism.
Governor-General Mary Simon recognized her for “advancing the field in academia, raising public awareness and supporting victims of violence and extremism.”
Other new inductees include actor Ryan Reynolds and champion curler Kevin Martin. Simon is also appointing retired footballer Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who worked as a medical doctor on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
