Ottawa earmarks $305K for energy-efficient Fort McPherson homes

Must read

The federal government will spend $305,000 to support energy-efficient homes in Fort McPherson, NWT Liberal MP Michael McLeod said on Monday.

In a news release, McLeod’s office said the money will be used by Fort McPherson-based Dinjii Zhuh Solutions to carry out home energy audits and fund energy efficiency upgrades like LED light bulbs, water-saving measure and pipe insulation.

The money comes from the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, which McLeod’s office said was a replacement for the Canada Greener Homes Grant that would offer “more comprehensive support.”

“The more that we invest in green infrastructure, the more that northerners get to save on energy costs and the less impact we make on our environment,” McLeod was quoted as saying.

At Dinjii Zhuh Solutions, Richard Nerysoo said the money would help the group “support homeownership, promote self-reliance, and inspire community-driven climate action.”
