Saint John police are investigating the death of a 30-year-old woman whose body was found on Lancaster Avenue early Christmas Eve morning.
A news release said first responders were called at 4:10 a.m. on Tuesday about an unresponsive, severely injured woman lying in the 600-block of Lancaster Avenue.
“Emergency first aid was rendered at the scene, and she was transported to hospital, where she was pronounced dead,” the release said.
The victim was identified by police as 30-year-old Nicsy Arboleda Rodriguez of Saint John.
No details were given by police about the nature of the woman’s injuries or death, and Saint John Police Force spokesperson acting Staff Sgt. Matthew Weir said police were not releasing this information in order to protect the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
Weir also declined to say if police believe any criminality was involved in the death.
“We’re still looking at all avenues of the investigation and trying to rule things out,” Weir said.
The news release said forensic services and the major crime unit are investigating and an autopsy will be scheduled to determine the cause of death.
Police are asking any witnesses or anyone in the area with video footage of the incident to come forward.
