French FM responds after Trump’s Greenland comments

STORY: :: France’s foreign minister says the EU won’t tolerate attacks on its borders after Trump’s Greenland comments:: France Inter:: January 8, 2025:: Paris, France:: Jean-Noel Barrot, French Foreign Minister“You are asking me if I think the United States will invade Greenland, the answer is no. Have we entered an era that sees the return of the survival of the fittest? The answer is yes. And so should we let ourselves be intimidated, should we let worry take over? Of course not.”“Of course, you were right to mention that it (Greenland) is a territory of the European Union. It’s a European territory. And so of course, it is out of the question for the European Union to let any nation in the world, whichever it is – and let me say starting with Russia – to attack its sovereign borders. We are a strong continent, we have to keep on strengthening ourselves. We should wake up, because we have taken a certain number of measures, but we have to go further.”Trump declined on Monday (January 6) to rule out military or economic action as part of his avowed desire to have the U.S. take control of Greenland, as well as the Panama Canal.Barrot told France Inter radio he did not believe the U.S. would invade the vast Arctic island that has been part of Denmark for over 600 years.Trump’s comments further outlined an expansionist agenda, two weeks before he is sworn into office at the Jan. 20 inauguration in Washington.
