According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester City are showing strong interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz and could compete with Bayern Munich for his signature.
The report reveals that Bayern has identified Wirtz as their top target for the summer of 2025, with the club ready to invest significantly in his transfer. However, Manchester City could benefit from Bayer Leverkusen’s preference to sell him to a foreign club rather than a Bundesliga rival.
Nonetheless, Fichajes reports that Paris Saint-Germain have shown great interest in Wirtz, and the Ligue 1 giants are willing to invest up to €150 million to secure Wirtz’s signing.
Bayer Leverkusen has made its stance clear regarding the sale of its star, and the German club value Wirtz not only for his talent but also for his potential growth.
Should the 21-year-old decide to leave, Bayer want to make him their all-time record transfer out, surpassing Kai Havertz’s €80 million transfer to Chelsea in 2020.
While Real Madrid have also been linked with Wirtz, Plettenberg reports that Manchester City have made the strongest efforts of any foreign club to sign the Germany international.
