Rain, warm temperatures and melting snow in the coming days may lead to higher water levels and some flooding in low-lying areas, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) warns.
The Environment Canada forecast says Saturday’s temperature will reach 10 C, which the GRCA says may lead to snow melting. On top of that, there could be up to 35 mm of rain by Monday.
“There is a snowpack of variable depth across the watershed with more snow present in the north. Water levels and flows are slightly elevated due to recent rain and snowmelt runoff,” the GRCA said in a flood message Friday afternoon.
“No significant flooding is expected with this event; however, higher flows in local waterways will increase the risk in low-lying areas typically prone to flooding.”
With rain and snow melting, the banks of rivers and waterways could be slippery and the GRCA warns people should use “extreme caution” near water.
The forecast says Sunday will see a high of 8 C with rain and it’s expected the region will see 4 C with rain for Monday. Snow is in the forecast starting on Wednesday.
