Rangers 2-0 St Johnstone: What the manager said

Must read

Rangers manager Philippe Clement said “I still expect more” from his side despite the 2-0 win over St Johnstone.

“But it’s an important win and a deserved win,” he told BBC Scotland. “It’s very positive that we get another clean sheet. It’s important we continue in that way.”

Winger Vaclav Cerny followed up his much publicised miss against Lyon in the Europa League with two goals.

“He did a really good job – he was really down after Thursday,” Clement said. “He had the right reaction today – he has all my trust.

“Glasgow is not easy when you miss a big chance on an important night. Those are things you have to adapt to. This is the best reaction you can have after a miserable evening.”

Romania midfielder Ianis Hagi made his first Rangers appearance in more than a year after injury and a contract issue, set up Cerny’s second goal but was then sent off.

“More clumsy from a player whose tired and not at his top fitness,” Clement said of the tackle. “I hope he can get more minutes with the national team.

“We have a lot of players going away. We pray they come back in good health. We’ll have an indoor friendly this week [for the players who are here].”
