The Houston Rockets and guard Jalen Green have agreed to a three-year, $106-million extension to his rookie contract, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports, citing Green’s CAA agents.

The deal will include a third-year player option, according to the report.

Green, 22, is approaching his fourth NBA season. The Rockets selected Green with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft after the Detroit Pistons selected Cade Cunningham first overall.

A 6-4 guard, Greene has averaged 19.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 42.1% from the field and 33.7% from 3-point distance in three NBA seasons. He initially signed a four-year, $40.8 million contract as a rookie.

Green is a key member of a young Rockets core also featuring Jabari Smith Jr., Alpernen Sengun, Amen Thompson and rookie Reed Sheppard, all of whom are younger than 23 years old. With veterans Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks in the starting lineup, the Rockets are looking to make a leap this season from being perpetually lottery-bound to contention for a playoff spot in the West.
