Souper Speedy, whose 53 wins and $2,673,363 in progeny earnings
this year made him the top active sire in Canada, reportedly died on a farm in southern
Ontario.

Daily Racing Form posted a story saying the 15-year-old
stallion “reportedly died in a paddock accident at T.C. Westmeath Stud Farm,” the
farm where he stood about 60 miles northwest of Toronto. There were no other
details about the mishap.

Bred in Florida, Souper Speedy was a son of Indian Charlie
out of Gone West broodmare Speed Succeeds. Six-year-old mare Il Malocchio, who won the 2022 Maple
Leaf (G3) and the 2023 Trillium (G3), was at the top of his list of progeny,
earning $590,870. Souper Supreme, Junior Hot Shot, Pleasure’s Gold and Miss
Speedy have been his stakes winners in 2024.

As a racehorse Souper Speedy was a four-time winner who
finished first in the 2013 Jaipur. He was trained by Tom Albertrani for Live
Oak Plantation.
