Week 10 in the CFL kicks off Thursday in the nation’s capital when the Ottawa Redblacks host the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Ottawa has won four of its last five games, while Saskatchewan has dropped three of its last four, and my Roughriders vs. Redblacks predictions expect those trends to continue.

Here are my best free CFL picks for August 8.

Roughriders vs Redblacks prediction

My best bet
Redblacks -3 (-110 at DraftKings)

My analysis

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have gone 1-3 straight up and against the spread in their last four games, and this week presents another brutal situational spot, flying east on just four days of rest to face an Ottawa Redblacks squad fresh off a bye.

The Riders’ defense has been heavily reliant on forcing turnovers since they give up a league-worst 311.3 yards per game through the air. Ottawa quarterback Dru Brown has looked very sharp in recent weeks and he should have another big game in Week 10.

Saskatchewan’s offense has been inefficient since QB Trevor Harris hit the IL with a knee injury just before Week 5. That offense is also hamstrung by injuries to stud running back A.J. Ouellete, left guard Ryan Sceviour, All-Star right tackle Jermarcus Hardrick, and his backup Jacob Brammer.

On the other side of the ball, defensive tackle Anthony Lanier and linebacker Jameer Thurman are sidelined by injuries and they normally anchor Saskatchewan’s stingy run defense.

While the Riders are banged up, Ottawa is getting healthy. Right tackle Ryan Sceviour, star returner DeVonte Dedmon, linebacker Frankie Griffin, and defensive back Justin Howell are all set to return to the lineup.

The Redblacks have gone 4-0 SU and ATS at TD Place this season, and I’m betting on them to roll at home again.

Roughriders vs Redblacks same-game parlay (SGP)

Redblacks -3.5

Dru Brown Over 292.5 passing yards

Justin Hardy 60+ receiving yards

Brown broke out with an incredible 480-yard performance in Week 6, and after a shaky game in Week 7, he bounced back by completing 81% of his passes for 325 yards against Calgary in Week 8. Until last week, the Riders had the best run defense in the league, but they’ve been vulnerable against the pass and that should lead to plenty of pass attempts and yards.

Justin Hardy is fourth in the CFL with 607 receiving yards through seven games. He has logged 60+ receiving yards in eight of his last nine contests and will excel against a subpar Saskatchewan secondary.

Roughriders vs Redblacks live odds

Roughriders vs Redblacks opening odds

  • Spread: Saskatchewan +1 (-110) | Ottawa -1 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Saskatchewan +100 | Ottawa -120
  • Over/Under: Over 48.5 (-110) | Under 48.5 (-110)

Roughriders vs Redblacks spread and Over/Under analysis

  • Trevor Harris was a full participant in practice, which led to the spread opening at Ottawa -1. However, after he was ruled out, the line moved as high as -3.5.
  • Ottawa is coming off a 33-6 rout in Week 8 but the Stamps were on just four days of rest and the Redblacks get another schedule gift this week.
  • Ottawa’s defense is second in the league in yards allowed per play (5.82) but has forced just 10 turnovers — the second-fewest in the league.
  • Ottawa leads the CFL in big play returns (9) while allowing the fewest (1), and Saskatchewan is second in both categories.
