Saskatchewan RCMP and the Prince Albert Police Service are asking people in the rural municipality of Garden River and the city of Prince Albert to be on the lookout for four people alleged to have been involved in carjacking a Good Samaritan, and then stealing another vehicle at gunpoint less than an hour later.
At about 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, two people driving in the RM of Garden River, just northeast of Prince Albert, stopped to help someone they believed to be a stranded motorist, RCMP say.
The Good Samaritans were threatened by a person with a gun and their vehicle, a red 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup with the Saskatchewan licence plate 529 ISI, was stolen, police said in a news release.
Around 5:40 p.m., the stolen truck and its occupants showed up near the north parking lot of Little Red River Park in Prince Albert, where two people were also threatened with a gun and assaulted. Their vehicle, a black 2013 Kia Sportage SUV (Saskatchewan plate 803 MKY), was also stolen.
One of the victims suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and required hospital treatment, police say.
Shortly after the second carjacking, both stolen vehicles were involved in a collision on the Diefenbaker Bridge in Prince Albert, according to police. Both vehicles fled the scene, but the red Dodge pickup was later found. It’s being processed by the Saskatchewan RCMP’s forensic identification services, police said, but they are still looking for the Kia.
Police said they have limited descriptions of the people involved, but they are described as three males, all of whom are tall and thin, and one female.
One of the male suspects was wearing a red shirt and had multiple tattoos, while another was wearing a dark-coloured hoodie.
Prince Albert RCMP and the city’s police service say the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached if spotted.
They’re asking anyone with information that may help to contact the Prince Albert RCMP at 310-RCMP or the Prince Albert Police Service at 306-953-4222, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
The Prince Albert Police Service says it is increasing patrols in the areas where the incidents happened, particularly around Little Red River Park.
