Sens Sunday: Ottawa Senators Week in Review

Everything feels fresh and new in Ottawa.

The Senators have new ownership and management that’s now had some time to get comfortable in their roles. They have a coaching staff, a star goalie, and some veterans all waiting to make their debuts in Ottawa.

The upcoming season feels clean and fresh, like the pristine sheet of ice they just put in at Canadian Tire Centre. The centre-ice logo this year looks double the size of last year’s, perhaps a sign of bigger and better things to come.

Before we look at what’s ahead, here’s a glance at the past seven days in Sens Nation, our final weekly review before (gasp) September arrives.

It would appear, barring any last-minute activity via free agency or professional tryout, GM Steve Staios is going to let the kids sort things out amongst themselves at training camp.

There was a lot of discussion this week about former Ottawa Senator Anthony Duclair‘s haircut this week. Duclair signed this summer with the Islanders who have a short hair policy that rubs some people the wrong way.

A feather in the cap of Zack Ostapchuk. It looks like he’s the Ottawa Senator prospect who’ll be invited to the NHL Upper Deck Rookie Showcase a week from Wednesday in Virginia.

With the Edmonton Oilers losing two former first rounders to offer sheets this week, we looked back on the only time in their history the Senators have used the offer sheet strategy.
