Torquay United boss Paul Wotton says the “stars aligned” to allow him to sign Yeovil Town striker Jordan Young.

The 24-year-old moved to Plainmoor for an undisclosed fee earlier this week, agreeing a deal that commits him to the club until the summer of 2027.

Young scored 16 goals last season as the Glovers won the National League South title.

“I’m very pleased to get him in,” Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.

“He’s a player I’ve known about for a long time, he excelled last year in the Yeovil side that were the best team in the league by a mile.

“He brings creativity, he brings pace, he brings experience of winning and adds to our squad. Sometimes the stars align and it fell into place.”

He is the second striker Torquay have paid a fee for since being taken over by new owners over the summer.

The Gulls signed Cody Cooke for an undisclosed fee from Bath City in July as Wotton built a new squad after the financial problems of last season.

“The board are brilliant,” he added.

“I highlighted the player, the pros and cons for the deal to go through, the length of contract.

“He’s only young, he’s 24, he’s got his best years ahead of him, so I think it shows tremendous support from the board.”
