Gabriel Jesus was once deemed the future of Manchester City, but Erling Haaland now holds that title.
The Norwegian striker replaced the Brazilian as he moved to Arsenal, and Haaland’s made the most of every opportunity for Pep Guardiola, including against Southampton on Saturday.
Haaland ended his three-game Premier League drought after finding the net in under five minutes against the visitors despite falling backward in the box.
It goes down as his 74th league goal for City, officially surpassing Jesus’ tally with the club. And he did so in 143 fewer games played.
One Matheus Nunes will also be pleased that Haaland found the net over the weekend. The goal earned him a fifth contribution in his last four starts for the club.
