Former Stoke City striker Andy Cooke believes that head coach Steven Schumacher is doing all the right things to build a successful team.
Cooke made more than 100 appearances for Stoke between 2000 and 2003 scoring 23 goals. He was also the Stoke player to score against Oxford United, the club’s opponents on Saturday.
Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, the 50-year-old says he’s been impressed with what Steven Schumacher has done as head coach.
“Supporters just want to see a team with commitment , desire and ambition and when they cross the white line they leave their heart and soul on the pitch.
“If they come off and get beat 1-0 or 2-0 then they can see it. He’s trying to create that with a bit of quality and hopefully he’s not too far away.”
After leaving the Potteries to play abroad, Cooke returned to England two-years later to play for Bradford City where he became team-mates with Steven Schumacher.
“I played with Steven at Bradford quite a few years so I understand what kind of person he is and where he wants to be, he’s got a massive task on his hands.
“There are massive clubs in the Championship, teams that are coming down from the Premier League that want to go straight back up and you are constantly competing against that conveyor belt. It’s not that easy”.
