It’s day two of the Davis Cup and some heavy hitters are entering the competition with the USA and Spain playing their first matches. What’s more, the action continues on the WTA circuit in Monastir and Guadalajara in the afternoon.
23:12 CET – Carlos Alcaraz (21) won his doubles match at the Davis Cup 6-7(2), 6-3, 7-6(2) as Spain secured a clean sweep of the Czech Republic.
22:18 CET – Victoria Azarenka (35) is out of Guadalajara after the Belarusian retired from her contest when trailing Kamilla Rakhimova (23) 2-6, 0-3.
20:51 CET – Matteo Arnaldi (23) has won a titanic battle with Thiago Monteiro (30), securing a 7-5, 6-7(4), 7-6 victory in a whopping three hours and 42 minutes. The win means Italy have gone 2-0 up and triumphed in their tie with Brazil.
20:13 CET – Carlos Alcaraz (21) was involved in a tight tussle with Tomas Machac (23), but with the score locked at 6-7(3), 6-1, the latter retired from the match, meaning Spain have won their tie with the Czech Republic.
18:32 CET – In the first match of the day in Monastir, Brit Sonay Kartal (22) crushed Mai Hontama (25) 6-2, 6-2 to move into her first WTA quarter-final.
18:09 CET – Great Britain have won their tie with Finland, claiming an unassailable 2-0 lead after Billy Harris (29) defeated Otto Virtanen (23) 6-4, 7-6(4).
Spain have also taken a 1-0 lead against the Czech Republic, with veteran Roberto Bautista Agut (36) clinching an impressive 7-6(1), 6-4 win over Jiri Lehecka (22).
Carlos Alcaraz (21) will now look to seal the tie for the Spaniards against Tomas Machac (23), and you can follow his match here.
15:54 CET – Dan Evans (34) has given Great Britain the lead in their tie with Finland, beating Eero Vasa (27) 7-6(3), 6-2.
14:07 CET – The USA have completed a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Chile, with Austin Krajicek (34) and Rajeev Ram (40) coming from behind to defeat Tomas Barrios Vera (26) and Matias Soto (25) 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(3) in the final rubber.
