Grant McCasland on Texas Tech basketball’s defensive showing against UCF
Grant McCasland on Texas Tech basketball’s defensive showing against UCF in Big 12 opener.
The Texas Tech basketball team received a commitment from four-star 2025 center Marial Akuentok on Monday night.
Akuentok announced his commitment via social media. He is rated a four-star composite prospect by 247Sports. The Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada, product took an official visit to Lubbock late last month and earned a scholarship offer on New Years Day.
Listed as a 6-foot-10 center out of Fort Erie International Academy, Akuentok held offers from the likes of Kansas State, West Virginia, Arizona State and Oregon before pledging to Texas Tech.
Akuentok is the first high school prospect for the 2025 class to commit to the Red Raiders. Texas Tech did not sign a recruit during national signing day in November and has only signed a handful of high school recruits during head coach Grant McCasland’s tenure.
While McCasland has put much of his recruiting efforts into the transfer portal, he told the Avalanche-Journal in October, “This is all about getting the right one,” when it comes to recruiting players out of high school. Akuentok fits that bill.
