Awards season is officially upon us! Kicking things off? The 2025 Golden Globes, which took over Los Angeles on January 5, with c0median Nikki Glaser hosting the star-studded night.
On the film side, Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez lead the field with 10 nominations (which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is a new record), including nods for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, as well as for stars Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez. Historical epic The Brutalist followed with seven, Vatican-set thriller Conclave with six, and the buzzy Anora and The Substance with five each. Celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are all nominated in acting categories too.
But let’s not forget that the Globes also celebrate the year’s top TV too. On that side of the categories, The Bear earned the most nominations with five total, while Only Murders in the Building and Shogun each racked up four. That also meant that Selena Gomez was a double nominee, having been recognized for her work on Only Murders, while actors like Maya Erskine, Keira Knightley, Keri Russell, Anna Sawai, Kristen Bell, Quinta Brunson and Ayo Edebiri were also represented in the TV categories.
