Travel Agents Preparing to Assist Stranded Air Canada Passengers

Must read

Air Canada says it’s growing more likely that its operations will begin shutting down as early as this weekend if a contract agreement isn’t reached with its pilots’ union—but travel agents can help guide you through the process and give advice on what to do if you become stranded.

As possible travel disruption looms, the airline says customers with bookings between September 15 and 23 can make changes at no cost, or receive a travel credit.

Julia Kent, the Director of Advocacy for the Canadian Automobile Association, says capacity will be a big issue if there is a strike and there will be disruptions.

Kent says customers are entitled to a cash refund if Air Canada cancels a flight. That’s if Air Canada cannot offer an alternative flight within 48 hours of the original departure time. She says achieving that obligation would be difficult for the airline should a strike occur.

Air Canada Express flights operated by Jazz and PAL Airlines will not be impacted.
