Drivers are being warned to stay safe as winter weather comes rushing back into Waterloo region and Guelph on Tuesday, prompting travel advisories for the area.

Environment Canada issued the winter weather travel advisories Thursday morning for Waterloo region and Southern Wellington County, including Kitchener, Cambridge, Guelph and Erin.

“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” the release from Environment Canada said, adding “take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.”

The total snowfall accumulation is expected to be 5 to 10 centimetres, and could still be falling in the region Thursday afternoon or evening.

This weather comes after a warm start to the week, with temperatures in Kitchener hitting a high of 8 C on Monday.
