Truro boss threatens shake-up after Bath defeat

Truro City boss John Askey has hinted he will make changes to his starting line-up after Tuesday’s defeat by Bath City.

The Tinners were beaten 1-0 in National League South after a late first-half goal from forward Solomon Wanjau-Smith.

The loss ended Truro’s three-game winning run and saw them drop to seventh in the table.

Speaking after the match, Askey said: “We should have come away with at least a draw.

“We haven’t performed at our best, [but we] created the better chances, and at the end we should’ve scored.

“The frustrating part of it was our poor defending because they got in two-on-one and that shouldn’t happen.

“You can’t say we dominated the game by any means, but they often puffed without creating any chances.

“We made it hard for ourselves by conceding that goal just before half-time when obviously we should be making sure we go in at 0-0.”

On Saturday, Truro welcome sixth-placed Eastbourne Borough to the Sports Hub, and Askey said his players are aware he might switch things up.

“This loss gives other lads the opportunity to play the next game, because if we were always winning then those chances won’t arise for other players,” he added.

“They know there’s competition for places and this opens things up, giving the lads an opportunity.”
