CDK Global, a prominent technology and software service provider, has experienced a cyber outage that has affected operations for automobile dealerships across the US and Canada for the second consecutive day. CDK was first affected by the cyber incident on June 19, following which the company shut down most of its systems as a preventive measure.

CDK has assured its clients that its services will be reinstated in a timely manner. While the number of automobile dealerships affected has not been made public, CDK services over 15,000 locations across North America. The issue is expected to take a few days to resolve.

CDK’s services include payroll management, office operations, and inventory management. The outage has prevented the dealerships from making any sales. The digital retailing and dealer management systems were temporarily restored, and other applications were being tested. However, a second cyberattack resulted in the systems going offline once again.

So far, affected dealerships have had to resort to more basic alternatives, such as maintaining spreadsheets and sticky notes for smaller transactions. However, larger transactions have mostly been challenging. The incident highlights the growing threat of threat actors and ransomware software being used against businesses, ultimately affecting employees and customers.
