Attention all maple syrup and hockey fans! United Airlines will officially be re-opening their flights from Houston to Alberta, Canada.
Next Stop, Canada!
The original flight was discontinued in 2020 after United Airlines failed to gather enough passengers to warrant a route to the hockey-playing capital of the world (have I offended Canadians enough yet?).
According to thestreet.com, the route from Houston to Edmonton International Airport will run four times a week during the summer months in 2025 and daily during the winter season.
You may be wondering why, of all places, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is being opened from Houston. Well, it turns out that both Houston and Edmonton are big in the oil industry scene. Also, many Canadians prefer to fly to Houston on their way to Florida or other warmer destinations for business or pleasure.
The Street also includes that United Airlines already has an established and living route from Houston to Calgary, a larger city in Alberta. This would add further options for travelers on both sides of the border. Not to mention that United has recently committed to flying from Chicago to Edmonton three times a week.
Get this, travel from the U.S. to Canada has increased over the past year, with recent reports showing a 13% increase of U.S. visitors in 2024 as compared to 2023.
So, could this be something that drives more foot (and air) traffic to the Lone Star State? Maybe I should book a ticket soon… I accept donations.
