MONTH OF September
Virgo season is serving up plot twists yet again! Just like last year, late August and early September are marked by planets going in and out of retrograde. (Don’t let the door hit you, Mercury…) Making plans and mapping your life direction won’t go off without a hitch, but you’ve got this, Virgo.
This year, a different cast of cosmic characters is on the celestial stage. Mercury is fresh out of its August 5 to 28 retrograde, and it’s high Virgo season, with the Sun in your sign until September 22. The annual Virgo new moon is also coming in hot on September 2, marking your personal new year. And midmonth, the full supermoon kicks off a game-changing new eclipse series on the Virgo-Pisces axis.
That’s a whole lot of forward momentum. But wait! On September 1, two outer planets, Uranus and Pluto, make retrograde pivots. Whiplash alert: Retrogrades can slam the brakes on anything that’s zooming ahead too quickly. In this case, it could be a romance, a creative project or a visionary idea that needs you to slow down and reaaaaallly think things through before you get swept up in the excitement any further.
From September 1 to January 30, 2025, Uranus will make its five-month retrograde through Taurus and your ninth house of travel, expansion and risk-taking. Virgo, it’s great to see you trying new things, but you may have tipped a little too far in that direction. Have you overshot the mark? Pedal back and make sure you’re not being overly optimistic to the point of destabilizing yourself. Your generosity is also an asset, but similarly, you may have given more than you could afford.
While Uranus is retrograde until next January, you’ll have a chance to get your bearings. You might even find some sense of home for a few months, set your metaphorical (or literal) bags down and stay for a while. A bit of nesting is always good for the Virgo soul. Allow yourself to enjoy that but keep a weekender bag hanging on the back of the door. You never know when the opportunity to jet-set will arise!
Since retrogrades rule the past, it’s likely that any such invitations will be to a place you’ve known and loved and visited before. Go back, Virgo! You may experience the place in a completely different way. A publishing or educational project that got waylaid could be worth revisiting. Ditto savvy business ideas or family-planning notions that have been simmering on the back burner.
Also on September 1, alchemical Pluto (retrograde from May 2 to October 11) will back out of Aquarius and into Capricorn, illuminating any lingering shadows in your fifth house of love, creativity and drama. This is Pluto’s final visit to Capricorn in your lifetime; on November 19, it will make a permanent exit and move on to Aquarius for a full 20 years.
Dodge the divas and keep watch on your ego—shadowy Pluto could dredge up old drama or power struggles, especially in your love life. Some of your own control issues could flare, so be careful not to project those onto other people. Do some inner work and self-reflection. The stars are pushing you to stand up for yourself now—and to stick to your convictions!
The fifth house rules fame, and with Pluto making its last lap through this part of your chart, it may be time to let your star fully rise. You might work with someone who helps you release fears and limiting beliefs around your own visibility. Remember, when YOU shine, you give others permission to do the same. Let the world see your power!
After November 19, Pluto begins its uninterrupted 20-year residency in Aquarius and your sixth house of work, wellness and strategy. The tone shifts from flirty to nerdy—and you might not mind one bit! After all, Virgo is the natural ruler of the zodiac’s sixth house. You should feel particularly potent, or at least in the zone, for these next two decades.
That’s not all these two heavyweight planets will be up to either. Throughout the month, Uranus and Pluto will harmonize in an ultra-rare 120-degree trine, setting the stage for profound transformation—on a personal AND global level. These two cosmic giants last met up in a similar fashion in the early 1920s, ushering in radical social, economic and political change. Who’s ready for a Roaring Twenties revival, one century removed?
Whew! Yes, that does all happen on the first DAY of the month. But despite these big moments, Virgo season serves up an opportunity to make ambitious strides toward your long-term goals. As the Sun embarks on its annual trip through your sign, your “solar return” wishes get especially charged up.
Put a few healthy resolutions in the mix as you blow out the candles on your (gluten-free) cake. With lucky Jupiter in your tenth house of career and success and structured Saturn in Pisces and your seventh house of collaborations and strategic partnerships for the rest of the year, you can make great strides toward dreams that might have once felt out of reach.
The September 2 Virgo new moon marks your personal new year. Don’t wait until December 31 to start plotting your big moves. Set intentions for what you’d like to personally accomplish in the next six months (use the Virgo full moon on March 14, 2025, for a target date)—and write them down to give them extra juice. Since Virgo rules health and wellness, this new moon is also an opportune moment to set any fitness goals (how are those ten thousand steps going?) or routines that can restore some much needed work-life balance.
That could be easier said than done on September 3 as driven Mars in your ambition sector clashes with foggy Neptune in your teamwork zone. Your plans to get ‘er done could be stalled by slacking collaborators or unexpected problems. Put out any fires, then re-strategize. Is there a more efficient workflow that could get you where you need to go? Or maybe your teammates just need a rousing pep talk.
Whatever the case, focus on ways to fix the issue rather than spiraling out. There’s light at the end of the tunnel! The silver lining? Mars moves out of Gemini and into Cancer tomorrow, energizing your group-activity zone until November 3. You’ll be able to get your team back into fighting shape.
Careful not to come on too strong, though, Virgo! We know you pride yourself on your perfectionistic high standards. However, with aggressive Mars barreling through moody Cancer, watch out for anxiety grabbing control of the steering wheel—making you more critical than motivating. Since Mars describes our desires and motivations and Cancer rules our inner world, hidden feelings could be revealed.
If people come to you with feedback or fail to live up to your expectations, don’t disregard or cut them off but DO establish some ground rules for the conversation. As long as you’re both committed to a common vision, these “hard conversations” could turn out to be a healing dialogue. Ask questions. Working through the conflict can actually strengthen your relationships.
While productivity may be your superpower, Virgo, with Mars in tender Cancer, you’ll be torn between accepting one more social invite and taking time for your own regeneration. Family events could demand your attention—cue the guilt trips—leaving you feeling rundown and on edge. (Has back-to-school season always been this crazy?!)
We understand that some things can’t be avoided, but be cognizant of your emotional signals letting you know that it’s time for some meaningful self-care. If you find yourself on the go, pack a healthy snack—you’re not you when you’re hangry!
On September 8, the annual Sun-Saturn opposition could find you stuck in a critical dance with someone you care about. With the Sun in Virgo at odds with Saturn in your relationship zone, this heavy transit could give you a pessimistic or “glass half empty” outlook. Quick reminder: Like passing rainclouds, this is a one-day transit. Instead of getting down on yourself and others, use it to take an honest inventory of your interpersonal dynamics. Where can you draw better boundaries to restore balance in your closest relationships? Is there room for more flexibility in your carefully curated dynamic?
You’ll be glad you took the time to define more aligned relationship parameters since midmonth offers a moment of radical change: Eclipse season rolls into town! The last two game-changing eclipses of 2024 take place over the course of this month and next (eclipses arrive four to six times a year), serving up disruption and upgrades—altering life as you know it.
September brings a brand-new series on the Virgo/Pisces axis through February 2027, revolutionizing the way you approach your individual expression AND your relationships. Rebalancing “me vs. we” will be a big theme of this cycle, which only happens every nine years. These eclipses will catalyze explosive growth around partnerships and fuel your willingness to play a starring role in your life. Recall the period between March 2015 and February 2017, the last time we had eclipses in these two signs.
The partial lunar (full supermoon) eclipse in Pisces on September 17 falls in your seventh house of partnerships. Is it time to make it official? A business or romantic connection could skyrocket to the next level of commitment…or perhaps come to an abrupt end. You’ve been learning about how to deal with people and what you want from a relationship ever since authoritative Saturn moved into Pisces in March 2023—now is your chance to apply those hard-won lessons to your own most important connections.
Looking for an ideal time to have those “very mindful” (but not so demure) conversations? Mark September 19 to 21 in your calendar for an extra cosmic confidence boost! The humble Virgo Sun forms an earthy grand trine (a planetary three-part harmony) with authentic Uranus and transformative Pluto across your arenas of leadership, self-expression and personal beliefs. You’ll be able to comfortably assert your newfound sense of authority in your interpersonal relationships then.
With all this energy between changemaker Uranus in your sector of personal growth and transformative Pluto in your arena of self-expression and creativity, set some bucket-list plans into motion. Sign up for a life-changing workshop. Invest in a piece of equipment that will make everything more efficient. Take that leap of faith and bring that entrepreneurial vision to reality!
You’ll be grateful for the grounding energy of Libra season, which begins on September 22 as the Sun moves into your stabilizing second house for a month. Balance is the name of the game—where can you curate more white space in your social calendar to maintain your peace of mind? With another eclipse to go and more planetary twists coming, take the time to recalibrate ahead of the next cosmic wave.
What do you REALLY need to feel secure in love and life, Virgo? September shines a cosmic spotlight on relationship stability—emotional and material—as Venus opens the month in Libra and your stabilizing second house, staying until September 22. Consistency is a turn-on now; you’re in no mood for games or to be “ghosted” by someone who disappears after a couple of seemingly promising Hinge dates.
Planting your love life on terra firma won’t be the easiest mission this month, however. A brand-new eclipse series begins on the Virgo-Pisces axis midmonth, reshuffling your interpersonal dynamics moving forward. These eclipses will catalyze explosive growth around partnerships while also fueling your willingness to prioritize Numero Uno. Get ready to channel your “main character energy” and put yourself first in your relationships, for once!
On September 2, the Virgo new moon highlights your priorities, pushing you to voice your needs and desires. The next daclass=”body-el-link standard-body-el-link” y (September 3), assertive Mars forms a tough square to hazy Neptune in your seventh house of trust and partnership, pulling you between fantasy and reality. You could feel weighed down by relationship obligations, trying to meet your own needs while tending to everyone else’s. On September 8, you’ll really feel the tension between your head and heart when the confident Sun forms its annual opposition to Saturn in your relationship house, ruler of reality checks and limitations.
Can your current partnership adapt to accommodate all these changes? You may get your answer midmonth, when the September 17 Pisces full moon (lunar) eclipse sweeps through your committed partnership house. This could bring a major leap forward into “official” territory—or a moment of truth for a relationship that’s gone off the rails. Is it time to part ways or finally confront the issues? There’s no more sweeping troubles under the rug when a truth-telling eclipse rides into town. Your mate could also go through some changes—a job offer in a new city, for example—that require some tough decisions on your part.
The lunar eclipse will be clarifying for single Virgos too. Get ready: You could meet someone with LTR potential or have an eye-opening epiphany about what you want in your next serious relationship. Lunar eclipses don’t tap-dance around the issues, so prepare to look at your own role in any unsatisfying past relationships. Were you too picky, unwilling to let go, always wondering if the grass was greener elsewhere? This eclipse could wash these outmoded attitudes away, leaving you more receptive to the love you crave.
With Mars mingling in familial Cancer and your communal eleventh house from September 4 through October 17, coupled Virgos might have a better time hanging in the company of your clan than drowning in the intimacy of one-on-one time. Bring on the group dates! But do leave some white space on the shared calendar. When you’re feeling bonded from a great night out with your crew, this experimental cycle can, er, electrify your alone time and revitalize your late-night pillow talk sessions. Single Virgos could meet a sizzling match while out socializing or through community activism—election season IS kicking into high gear, after all.
Let your ideas shine, Virgo! With the Sun barreling through YOUR sign and ambitious Mars in Cancer activating your arena of groups and long-term priorities for most of the month, you’re ready to channel your lofty goals into a rewarding and profitable career path.
The month opens with your personal new year—the Virgo new moon on September 2—the perfect moment to set intentions for what you’d like to personally accomplish in the next six months (set the Virgo full moon on March 14, 2025, as your target date).
Go-getter Mars forms a challenging square to hazy Neptune the following day (September 3), pushing you to set clear boundaries and manage people’s expectations. That way, you can focus on your goals and dreams without fretting that you’re neglecting or abandoning your loved ones (as if!).
A partnership makes headlines midmonth, when the September 17 Pisces partial lunar (full moon) eclipse disrupts the status quo in your interpersonal affairs department. This game-changing lunation could bring in an exciting joint venture or a major contract. However, it could all happen at an overwhelming pace, leaving you little time to evaluate with your typical thoroughness.
You’ll get an opportunity to digest when the organized Virgo Sun activates a harmonious grand earth trine (an abundant triangle) with changemaker Uranus and powerful Pluto across your creative, initiatory and self-expressive zones from September 19 to 21. Meditate on the work you wish to create and incorporate a visualization practice to help you see (and attract) a lucrative outcome. Earth signs are known for their ability to materialize what they want. Lean into that superpower and manifest away!
More financial news is on the way starting September 22, when the Sun starts a month-long trip to Libra and your second house of money and security. The Sun-Mercury meetup in diplomatic Libra on September 30 helps you negotiate a sweet contract or status upgrade! Go boldly forward with a career move or business venture now.
