Defender Ben Cabango has signed a new contract to remain with Swansea City until the summer of 2028.
The centre-back’s previous deal with the Swans was due to expire at the end of the current season.
“I’m really happy to have signed a new contract with Swansea City,” said the 24-year-old.
“We’ve been talking about it for a while and I think since Andy’s [chairman Andy Coleman] taken over it’s been really positive.
“I’ve seen the change obviously with the gaffer as well. It’s all been more positive and everything is going in the right direction.”
Luke Williams is a huge admirer of the Cardiff-born defender and was among those involved – along with Coleman and captain Matt Grimes – in delivering a presentation to Cabango to help convince him to sign a new deal.
Cabango – who scored in a 1-1 draw with Bristol City in September – has been a key figure under Williams having played every single minute of Championship action so far this season.
“The path that the club is on at the moment, we will be there or there about soon. It’s going to take time and we’re starting to see the results and hopefully we can keep building,” added Cabango.
The central defender’s club form has also been recognised at international level under new Wales boss Craig Bellamy.
Cabango featured in half of his country’s six Nations League matches under the former Wales striker, starting in wins against Montenegro and Iceland.
“We are overjoyed to have Ben commit his future to Swansea City,” said chairman Coleman.
“His dedication and talent are invaluable to our team, and this new contract is a testament to our ambition and our bright future.
“We made a presentation as part of the negotiations to Ben so he knew exactly how important he was to us, and this is a really exciting early Christmas present for our fans. We look forward to many more successful years with him.”
The news of Cabango’s deal serves as a real boost to Williams, who is also eager to see Harry Darling – whose contract expires next summer – sign fresh terms to further bolster Swansea’s defensive ranks.
Cabango – who joined Swansea at the age of 14 – has made 206 appearances for the Championship side.
